Steering Wheel Cover Installation Guide

Important:

Our steering wheel covers are designed for a snug fit and may initially seem difficult to install.

Rest assured, they are made to be durable and will fit over the wheel.

In the rare event that the cover gets damaged, you are entitled to a full refund.

The steering wheel cover may feel tight, which is normal as it needs to fit securely. Before returning, please view our troubleshooting video above.

The video demonstrates the installation technique on a 15.375" steering wheel, which is the maximum size stated on our packaging.

If you measure your steering wheel and measures under 15.375" we encourage you to watch the video and then give the installation another try.

Also note that some vehicle models have different steering wheel sizes depending on their trim which some online compatibility tools do not account for. If you used the Amazon Sizing Tool by inputting your vehicle's year, make and model it may not be correct. Please double check your steering wheel size yourself.

Installing a shaped leather steering wheel cover can enhance both the aesthetics and grip of your steering wheel.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it, tailored for precision and ensuring a snug fit without damaging the leather or the steering wheel itself.

This process can be applied broadly, though minor adjustments might be necessary depending on the specific design or features of your steering wheel cover.

Step 1: Preparation

  • Materials Needed: Leather steering wheel cover, hairdryer (optional, for more flexibility in the leather) and possibly gloves for a better grip.
  • Clean the Steering Wheel: Before you start, ensure your steering wheel is clean and dry.

Step 2: Familiarize Yourself with the Cover

  • Check the Fit: Before attempting to put it on, align the cover with your steering wheel to ensure it's the correct size and shape. Note how it's supposed to fit over the wheel, particularly if there are notches or specific designs that correspond to certain wheel features.

Step 3: Warming the Cover

  • Make It Flexible: If the leather is too stiff, you can warm it up to make it more pliable. Using a hairdryer on a warm setting (not too hot to avoid damage), evenly heat the cover for a few minutes. This step is crucial, especially for tight-fitting covers, as it reduces the risk of tearing the leather.

Step 4: Starting the Installation

  • Begin at the Top: It's generally easier to start from the top of the steering wheel. Align any notches or designs with their corresponding parts on the wheel.
  • Work Your Way Down: Gradually stretch and work the cover over the wheel, moving from the top down to the sides. If it's particularly tight, alternate sides as you progress to ensure even placement and avoid warping the shape.

Step 5: Adjust and Align

  • Ensuring Proper Fit: Once the cover is on, you may need to adjust it to ensure it's perfectly aligned with the wheel. This might require slightly pulling or rotating the cover to match up any designs or notches exactly.

Step 6: Secure the Cover

  • Finalize the Fit: Depending on the design of the cover, this step may involve tying, stitching, or snapping parts of the cover together beneath the wheel. Make sure it's secure and there are no loose ends that could interfere with driving.

Step 7: Inspection and Adjustment

  • Check for Snugness: Go around the wheel one more time, making sure the cover is snug and there are no creases or loose areas. The cover should feel secure in your hands, without any movement independent of the wheel itself.

Tips for Success

  • Patience is Key: The leather might be very snug at first. Take your time and use gradual and even pressure.
  • Even Heating: If using a hairdryer, make sure to heat the cover evenly to avoid damaging the leather.
  • Use Gloves: If you're struggling to get a good grip, wearing a pair of gloves can provide extra traction without risking damage to the leather.
  • Don't worry about damaging the steering wheel cover: it's designed to fit tightly and may require considerable force to install. In fact, if you damage the cover during the install you can return it for a full refund.

Remember, the goal is to enhance both the function and form of your steering wheel, so ensuring a precise fit is crucial. Not all steering wheel covers are created equal, so it's important to select one that's designed to fit your specific steering wheel size and shape for the best results.
